Submission of contributions

General information

We have planned the following event formats for the 14th SGS Annual Conference:

  • Symposia
  • Oral Sessions
  • Poster Sessions with short presentation
  • Young Investigator Award

Contributions can be submitted in English, German or French via Conftool until 31 October 2022 (www.conftool.com/sgs2023). Abstracts can be submitted online in an input mask. Please note the maximum word limit. Feedback on the acceptance or rejection of your contribution will be provided at the beginning of December 2022. All accepted contributions will be published in a Book of Abstracts.

A symposium consists of thematically related contributions that have a connection to one of the three perspectives of the conference theme sport.wissen.schaf(f)t.wert (cf. above). It should include contributions from various institutions; in particular, an explicit reference to the practice of sport and the involvement of corresponding partners is desired.

A symposium lasts 60 minutes and usually includes three to four presentations.

Submissions should include:

  • Name of the chair(s) with institutional affiliation
  • Title of the symposium
  • Covering abstract on the symposium, explaining the overarching theme or the common research question and briefly classifying the individual contributions (max. 200 words)

and for each individual contribution:

  • Name(s) of authorship with institutional affiliation.
  • Title of the individual contribution
  • Abstract (max. 500 words, incl. literature)

Oral sessions are based on the submitted thematically free individual contributions. The individual contributions (10 min. presentation + 5 min. discussion) will be arranged by the local programme committee and combined into thematically coherent oral sessions as far as possible. The local programme committee reserves the right to assign the contributions submitted here to the format poster with short presentation.

Submissions should include:

  • Name(s) of authorship with institutional affiliation.
  • Title of the individual contribution
  • Abstract (max. 500 words, incl. literature)

These consist of several contributions and include a short presentation of maximum three minutes and a subsequent discussion at the poster. The individual contributions submitted will be sorted by the local programme committee and combined into poster sessions that are as thematically coherent as possible.

Submissions should include:

  • Name(s) of author(s) with institutional affiliation
  • Title of the individual contribution
  • Abstract (max. 500 words, incl. literature)

Candidates who wish to apply for the Young Investigator Award (YIA) submit a detailed abstract of their research. The five best applicants will present their work at the annual conference as part of the YIA final round.

The first author

  • must not have completed his/her doctorate at the time of the conference
  • must not be a previous SGS Young Investigator Award winner (1st-3rd place)
  • must be working for a Swiss institution or be a Swiss citizen.

The following must be submitted:

  • Name(s) of the first author(s) and of the entire authorship with institutional affiliation
  • Title of the individual contribution
  • Abstract in English (max. 1500 words, incl. literature)

All YIA applicants who are not selected for the final round will automatically participate in the review process for the other paper formats of the conference and may (if the abstract is accepted) present their research in an oral session or poster session (without additional submission of a shorter abstract).
